Data is critical for sharing information and building the essential surgery evidence-base. Using innovation its possible for research, data collection, and information sharing to be readily available to providers working in remote areas; as well as policy makers and leaders, researchers, and NGOs. Real time data and emerging research needs to underpin all policy and practice efforts to ensure that the advances in essential surgery are evidence rich and that the impacts are measurable and replicable.

Specific data goals:

1)   To build the body of evidence supporting the need for and efficacy of essential surgery through publishing and disseminating original research that details promising practices and that help address surgical supply chain shortages.

2)   Data maps that illustrate surgical workforce shortages, supply chain barriers and health conditions impacted by essential surgeries in targeted LMICs.

3) To establish metrics that measure the impacts and benefits of essential surgeries.
